The Petrified Forest
In the island of Lemnos and especially in the areas of Varos, Roussopoulos, Moudros Thanos and Kontia, located in the area of "Paradissi", there are fossils. Surveys show with certainty the existence of a petrified forest of great scientific value which consists of tropical and subtropical plants. These findings, despite the fact that they are of great scientific value, are not yet being developed.
http://www.greekballoon.gr/lemnos/Last but not least, one of the most significant sights of the island lies in Moudros. This is the fossil forest (one of the two discovered in Greece, along with the one in Lesvos), where research has revealed fossil tree trunks, leaves and seeds, which radio-chronological tests have dated at 20-22 million years of age.
