Ores from Niederschlema, Schlema, Germany
« am: 20 Apr 16, 01:02 »
Anyone familiar with the ores of Niederschlema, Schlema, Schlema-Hartenstein District, Erzgebirge, Saxony, Germany? I need confirmation of Lollingite and Rammelsbergite.

Description - Metallic veins of bronze colored Nickeline associated with light grey metallic Lollingite and darker gray Rammelsbergite, white Calcite and possible tan Baryte matrix

Visual identification of massive Rammelsbergite and Löllingite is hardly reliable. But according to the typical paragenesis of Niederschlema Bi-Co-Ni ores, I believe that the light grey metallic mineral could probably be Lollingite (although Skutterudite could be possible too) and the darker gray mineral Rammelsbergite.

Very often grey Bi-Co-Ni ores from Niederschlema are labeled as Safflorite. I had the opportunity to let analyse (EDX) samples from Niederschlema. All dark grey samples which were suspected to be Safflorite turned out to be Rammelsbergite. The lighter grey ore has been proved to be either Lollingite or Skutterudite.

For that reason Rammelsbergite and Lollingite seem to be plausible, but if you need certainty, an analysis would be required.
