Hölzer aus Chinchilla sind zwar bekannt, jedoch nicht einfach zu bekommen. Und preiswert sind sie, zumindest in guter Qualität, erst Recht nicht. Dieses Jahr hatt ich in Quartzsite / AZ das Glück, einem Australischen Händler zu begenen, der massenhaft Hölzer anbot. Und das auch noch zu fairen Preisen. Aus 4 Fässern habe ich die besten Stücke aussortiert. Das meisste kommt erst Ende März mit dem Schiff, aber ein paar Stücke passten doch noch in´s Gepäck.

schööön, wie sind denn die preise in den usa ?

Hallo Bernd,
das kann man nicht allgemein beantworten. Es kommt darauf an wo, bei wem und wieviel man einkauft. In Tucson kann man z.B. nur sehr schwer ein echtes Schnäppchen machen. In Quartzsite sind viele Hobbyhändler, die oft gar nicht wissen was sie da verkaufen. Da kann man echt günstige Sachen bekommen. Vor allem Rohmaterial, wenn man den Blick für die Ware hat. Wenn man aber bei einem professionellen Händler ein fertiges Einzelstück haben möchte zahlt man im Schnitt das Gleiche, oder gar mehr als hier bei uns.
Dazu schreibe ich dann aber noch gesondert in einem Bericht über die Börse in Quartzsite.

Wobei ja Miles (sh. eigenes Thema), Wandoan und Chinchilla alle relativ nahe beieinander in der Western Downs Region liegen - es scheint sich dabei also um ein größeres Fundgebiet für jura- bis unterkreidezeitliche Hölzer und andere Pflanzenreste zu handeln. Öfters ist ja als Fundort auch "zwischen Chinchilla und Miles" angegeben, auch " Injun Creek nahe Wandoan" oder "Wandoan Valley Gebiet zwischen Chinchilla und Miles". Ich würde mich also nicht unbedingt darauf verlassen, dass alle Hölzer mit der Angabe "Chinchilla" unbedingt aus dieser Kleinstadt bzw. ihrer unmittelbaren Umgebung stammen - jedenfalls aber aus diesem Gebiet.

Leider war keine nähere FO-Angabe als "Australien" zu erhalten, aber nach Farbe bzw. Farbkombination, Art der Fossilisation/Erhaltung (z.B. die kleinen grauen bis graublauen Flecken, bei denen es sich nicht um Reste von Polierpaste handelt, sondern um abweichend verkieselte/gröber rekristallisierte Bereiche) nehme ich mal stark an, dass auch dieses Stück aus dem bekannten Fundgebiet um Chinchilla/Miles/Wandoan stammt.
Oder kennt jemand von euch ein zweites Fundgebiet in Australien, in dem exakt soche Hölzer vorkommen?
Bin für jeden etwaigen Hinweis dankbar .....

Hier noch ein sehr farbiges Exemplar eines Araukarienholzes aus der Region Miles.
Dieses besitzt nicht sehr ausgeprägte Kantenrundungen, wie sie sonst bei den Hölzern aus der Region typisch sind.
