Detailed Description

Im Juni 1893 begann die Erschließung mit der Entdeckung reicher alluvialer Gold-Lager beim Mt. Charlotte. Nach der Erschöpfung der Oberfächen-Goldfelder hat sich die Goldförderung im tiefen Untertagebau wieder belebt. Einen wirtschaftlichen Aufschwung brachte dazu die Entdeckung reicher Nickelvorkommen in Kambalda im S von Kalgoorlie.

Hannan's North Tourist Mine:

Eastern By-Pass Road, 5 km NW. Führungen täglich von 9-17 Uhr, Buchungen über das Tourist Office.

Das ehemalige Goldbergwerk wäre zwar noch betriebsfähig, dient aber heute nur noch als Touristenmagnet. Die Mine, durch welche die Besucher mit einer kleinen Bahn gefahren werden, liegt direkt an der Golden Mile. Zum Programm gehören beispielsweise das Gießen eines "Goldbarrens". Einstiges Bergwerk in dem neben einer 66 m tiefen Untergrundmine auch das damalige Leben mit historischen Gebäuden gezeigt wird.

17 Hannan Street, geöffnet täglich von 10 am bis 4-30 pm.

Das Museum hat umfangreiche Ausstellungen zur Geschichte der Stadt und zum Goldsuchen.

School of Mines Museum:

Cassidy Street Kalgoorlie. Öffnungszeiten 8.30am bis 12-30 pm Mo-Fr. Freier Eintritt. T. (08) 9088 6001.

U.a. 3000 Repliken berühmter Gold-Nuggets.
