Geology

Zinn-Silber-Vererzungen. Die Hauptgesteine im Gebiet von Potosi sind leicht metamorph geprägte ordovizische Ton schiefer, die von vulkanischen Tuffen bedeckt sind. Der bedeutendste Vulkanit im Gebiet von Potosi ist der Stock von Potosi, der den Cerro Rico aufbaut. Das ursprüngliche Gestein war ein Dazit oder Quarzlatit, liegt aber heute in veränderter Form vor.
