Detailed Description

Lage

Die Hügelkette der Cerros Pintados (bemalte Hügel) liegt in der Pampa Tamarugal, S von Iquique, etwa 1km linkerhand der Panamericana (von S kommend, deutlich sichtbar, gut mit PKW bis direkt vor die Fundstelle erreichbar). Ein sehr reiches und für Sammler äußerst interessantes und ergiebiges Vorkommen seltener Sulfate.

Sammler-Informationen und Fundmöglichkeiten

Alle der in der Mineralienliste aufgeführten Mineralien können mühelos gefunden werden; einige davon in großen Stufen. Amarantit kommt in tiefroten filzigen Aggregaten stellenweise reichlich vor; Amarillit reichlich in karmesinroten bis orangegelben kristallinen Aggregaten; Apjohnit weiß und seidig, Botryogen sehr häufig in gelblich-orangegelben Putzen, Blöcken und Stufen; Butlerit und Parabutlerit in erdiggelben bis orangegelben Aggregaten und Kugeln, Goldichit als glänzend gelbe Sprays und Sternchen; Hohmannit, meist in Metahohmannit umgewandelt, braune bis goldbraune Körner mit Botryogen, Mendozit in weißen, faserigen Aggregaten; Minamiit weiß bis farblos mit Botryogen, Tamarugit weiße bis hellgelbliche kristalline Aggregate.

Sobotkit vom Camarones-Pass

Wer sich schon in dieser Gegend befindet, sollte auch nicht die Sobotkit-Fundstelle am Camarones-Pass bei Cuya versäumen. Sobotkit (Al-reicher Saponit) kommt in Form rosaroter, nierig-kugeliger Aggregate bis mehrere cm Größe beidseitig des Straßenaufschlusses reichlich in den Wänden vor.
