Kalongwe war in den 1930ern eine Prospektionsgrube, die nachwievor mitten im dichten Dschungel liegt. Aufgrund dieser Einschränkung erfolgte bis heute kein Abbau der Lagerstätte.

Hier haben Cuprosklodowskit und Vandenbrandeit Typlokalität.
