Detailed Description

Die L'Etoile du Congo Mine (Star Of The Congo Mine; Kalukuluku Mine) war der erste Tagebau (1911) in Shaba. Er liegt 12 km entfernt von Lubumbashi.
Der Name kommt von der Flagge der Demokratischen Republik Kongo (goldener Stern auf blauem Hintergrund). Die Tanganyika Concessions Ltd. gab der Mine den Namen.

Bekannt ist der Tagebau unter anderem durch das Kupferphosphat Cornetit, das hier das erste Mal (und bisher häufig) gefunden worden ist. Zudem liefert(e) er außergewöhnlich gute Stufen von Chrysokoll, Malachit, Pseudomalachit und dem Cobalthydroxid Heterogenit.
