Detailed description

Der Name Mollusca (Weichtiere) verrät bereits den aus Weichteilen bestehenden Körper der mit wenigen Ausnahmen (Einschaler und in Ansätzen Käferschnecken) unsegmentiert ist, der allerdings durch Schalen oder Gehäuse aus kohlensaurem Kalk geschützt wird. Es gibt sogar solche, die darauf verzichtet haben.

Typische Vertreter sind u.a. Schnecken, Muscheln, Kopffüßer (z.B. Ammoniten, Belemniten, Tintenfische).
