Ausführliche Beschreibung

Beschreibung

Die Unterklasse Nautiloidea bildet die älteste Gruppe der Cephalopoden. Bereits im späten Kambrium erschien als Stammform die Ordnung Ellesmerocerida. Auch die Unterklassen Actinoceratoidea und Endoceratoidea gehen auf die Ellesmerocerida zurück.

Lange bevor es die ersten Ammoniten gab, entfalteten sich die Nautiloidea reich und bildeten eine große Formenvielfalt. Ihre Blütezeit lag im Ordovizium und Silur. Eine zweite, schwächere Virenzphase lag zwischen Devon und unterem Jura. Zur Blütezeit der Ammoniten (Jura/Kreide), spielten die Nautiloidea nur noch eine untergeordnete Rolle. Während die Ammoniten am Ende der Kreidezeit ausstarben, konnte sich die seit dem Unterdevon existierende Ordnung Nautilida mit einer Gattung bis in die Gegenwart halten.

Über eine halbe Milliarde Jahre nach auftauchen der Stammform lebt heute noch, als letztes Relikt, die Gattung Nautilus mit wenigen Arten im westlichen Pazifik.

Nach ihrem Erscheinen spalteten sich die Nautiloidea schnell in verschiedene Ordnungen auf. Dabei entwickelten sie sehr unterschiedliche Gehäusegestalten. Einige orthocone Formen bildeten meterlange Gehäuse (Endoceras, Orthoceras).

Die Nautiloidea unterscheiden sich u.a.durch den Bau ihres Siphonalapparates. Er ist sehr variabel und wesentlich komplizierter als bei den Ammoniten. Bei der Taxonomie spielt er deshalb eine wichtige Rolle. Die Lobenlinie ist in der Regel nur einfach geschwungen.

  • orthochoanitisch bei diesem Typ sind die Siphonaldüten kurz und gerade. Die Siphonalhüllen zylindrisch. Beispiel: Orthoceras.
  • holochoanitisch : die Siphonaldüten sind sind sehr lang und reichen bis zum nächsten Septum. Beispiel: Endoceras.
  • cyrtochoanitisch : kurze Siphonaldüten, nach außen umgebogen. Siphonalhüllen bauchig, wodurch ein perlschnurartiges Aussehen entsteht.
  • mixochoanitisch : zuerst orthochoanitisch, dann plötzlich cyrtochoanitisch. Beispiel: Ascoceras.
