Der langgestreckte Körper der Proterosuchidae war krokodilartig, ihre Beine hielten die Tiere seitlich abgespreizt. Charakteristisch ist das den Unterkiefer überragende und überhängende Prämaxillare an der Spitze des Oberkiefers.
