Detailed description

Unterklasse der Rizopoden (Wurzelfüßer). Kambrium bis Gegenwart. Das Gehäuse dieser meist marinen, einzelligen Tiere kann einkammerig (monothalam) oder vielkammerig (polythalam) sein. Die Foraminiferen leben sessil- oder vagilbenthonisch oder planktonisch. Zahlreiche Vertreter ( Fusulinen, Nummuliten, Globigerinen u..v.a.) bildeten mergelig-kalkige Sedimente.
