Protisten sind ein- oder wenigzellige Lebewesen mit einem Zellkern (Eukaryota). Aus den Protisten entwickelten sich die Pflanzen, Tiere und Pilze. Zu den Protisten zählen einzellige Protozoen (Rizopoden, Cilien, Flagellaten, Amöeben, Radiolaren), mehrzellige Algen (Tange, Flechten, Diatomeen), Schleimpilze (Myxomyceten) und Eipilze (Oomyceten).
