Ilimaussaq-Komplex, Narsaq, Kommune Kujalleq, GL

Die Ilimaussaq-Intrusion ist ein 17 x 8 km großer ovaler Körper. Der Fjord Tunugdliarfik (Eriksfjord) durchschneidet die Intrusion. Die Mitte des Ovals liegt etwa 11 km östlich vom Ort Narssaq. Das Aufschlussgebiet ist kaum bewachsen und stark verwittert. Das Terrain steigt von Südosten nach Nordwesten an. Der höchste Punkt ist der Berg Ilimaussaq mit 1390 m.
Der südliche Teil des Komplexes durchdringt den Julianehåb-Granit; der nördliche dazu basaltische Laven und kontinentale Sandsteine, die den Granit bedecken.
Fundstellen
In der ganzen Intrusion kann man Mineralien finden. Besonders zu erwähnen ist die Insel Igdlutalik an der Südspitze Grönlands. Der Geologe Upton aus England entdeckte 1974 einen Trachytgang von 20 x 50 m. Das Gestein besteht aus Aegirin und Albit. Mineralien von hier sind Narsarsukit und Emeleusit.
Mineralien
Ilimaussaq ist das mineralienreichste Gebiet von ganz Grönland - hier gibt es über 200 verschiedene Arten. Über die Hälfte davon sind Silikate.
Gesteinsbildende Mineralien sind Alkalifeldspat, Nephelin, Sodalith, Arfvedsonit, Aegirin und Eudialyt. Besondere Elemente sind Li, Be, SEE, Zr, Nb, Th, U. Allgemein sind F, Cl und S sehr häufig. Es gibt mehr natriumreiche Mineralien als kaliumreiche. Die meisten Mineralien kommen in Pegmatiten, hydrothermalen Gängen, Trümer und Flecken vor.

Emeleusit wurde 1974 als großen Brocken in Igdlutalik gefunden. Eine kleine Geode im Gestein enthielt Kristalle bis 2 mm, durchsichtig und glasglänzend. Es sind viele Formen bekannt, dominierende Flächen sind {100}, {010}, {001}, {110}. Pseudohexagonale Durchkreuzungszwillinge nach {110} hat man beobachtet, Drillinge sind auch möglich. Große Mengen an Eudialyt hat man im Nephelinsyenit und auch in Pegmatiten gefunden. Am meisten vorkommend im Kakortokit, in dem Schichten von reinem Eudialyt ein Meter mächtig sein können.
Eudialyt ist auch gut kristallisiert zu finden. Die Größe schwankt zwischen mikroskopisch und 10cm. Farbe: hellrot über dunkelrotbraun bis graurot. Eudialyt neigt dazu, in andere sekundäre Mineralien umgewandelt zu werden, wie z.B. Katapleit, Zirkon, Feldspat, Akmit, Analcim, Zeolithe. (Kommune Kujalleq/Narsaq/Ilimaussaq-Komplex)

Narsarsukit bildet dunkelgrüne, tetragonale, prismatische Kristalle bis 10 mm. Die Kristalle von Igdlutalik sind untersetzte Prismen, ca. zweimal so lang wie breit. Semenovit-(Ce) ist sehr selten und wurde bisher nur in Illimaussaq gefunden. Zu finden ist er nur in einem Gang im Taseq-Hang in den Hohlräumen des Epididymit-Eudidymit-Albitit-Gesteins; Epididymit bildet die Unterlage für Semenovit-(Ce). Die Größe der bipyramdialen Kristalle beträgt 0,1-1mm, ganz selten 10mm; Die Farbe geht nach dem Grad der Verwitterung/Umwandlung von braun, orangebraun bis matt graubräunlich-rot und graubraun. Sørensenit ist nur in Illimaussaq bekannt, entdeckt wurde es 1962 in Kvanefjeld.
Es bildet gestreckte, tafelige Kristalle bis 10,0x10,0x0,5cm in Analcim-Paragenese. Einelkristalle können gerade, aber auch gebogen sein. Meistens sind die Sørensenite leistenförmig.
Farbe: durchscheinend und farblos über rosarot oder auch weiß; Glanz: seidenglänzend.

Steenstrupin-(Ce) ist weit verbreitet im Massiv (Syenit und hydrothermal). Gut entwickelte trigonale Kristalle, Habitus meist isometrisch. Es dominieren neben {0001}, {1011} oder {0222}. Seltener sind hexagonale Tafeln. Farbe: schwarz, dunkelbraun. (Kommune Kujalleq/Narsaq/Ilimaussaq-Komplex)

Tugtupit wurde 1957 im Fjord Tunugdliarfik gefunden, dort in sehr geringer Menge. Inzwischen findet man es an vielen hydrothermalen Orten in der Intrusion. Paragenese: Albit, Analcim, Aegirin. Meistens ist Tugtupit derb, sehr selten gibt es gute Kristalle. Sie befinden sich in Hohlräumen auf Tugtupit-Matrix und sind zwischen 1mm und 3x2x2mm groß. Bergfrisch sind Tugtupite weiß, aber das Sonnenlicht färbt sie rosa bis rosarot (beim Aufbewahren im Dunkeln färbt er sich wieder weiß, usw.)
Rosa Tugtupit wurde 1962 in Kangerdluarssuk, roter 1965 in Kvanefjeld gefunden. Bei Kvanefjeld hat man auch eine blaue Varietät entdeckt. (Kommune Kujalleq/Narsaq/Ilimaussaq-Komplex)

Tundrit-(Ce) wurde 1964 im Pegmatit des Kakortokit entdeckt (SW von Illimaussaq). Es bildet Sphaerolithe und sternförmige Aggregate bis 5mm Durchmesser. Die Kristalle sind linealförmig, gelbgrün und diamantglänzend. Von der Form her erinnern sie an Aegirin oder Alunit. Paragenese: Arfvedsonit, Eudialyt, Feldspat.
Im Randgebiet des Pegmatits von Kvanefjeld tritt Tundrit-(Ce) als fächerförmige Aggregate bis 20mm auf. Es wurden jedoch hiervon nur sechs Proben gefunden. (Kommune Kujalleq/Narsaq/Ilimaussaq-Komplex)
Villiaumit gibt es weltweit nur selten, in Illimaussaq wurde es 1962 in Bohrkernen gefunden. Um 1980 hat man sehr viel Material gefunden, das reich an Villiaumit war.
