Hutchinson, Arthur

Prof. Dr. Arthur Hutchinson ( + 6. Juli 1866, London, UK – gest. 12. Dez. 1937, Cambridge, UK) war Chemiker und Mineraloge.

Seine Ausbildung begann am Clifton und Christ's College, Cambridge, wo er die 1. Klassen in beiden Teilen der Naturwissenschaftlichen Kurse belegte, im 2. Teil belegte er Chemie mit Mineralogy als ein ergänzendes Fach (1888). Seine Doktorarbeit fertigte er in Organischer Chemie an: 'On the reduction of aromatic amides'. ("Reduktion aromatischer Amide") War als Chemiker und Mineraloge in der Universität Cambridge tätig. Er war die Schlüsselfigur seines Departments. Hutchinson baute die Sammlung von Kristallen und Mineralien weiter aus. Konstruierte mehrere Apparate zur optischen Bestimmung von Mineralien und Kristallen. Er wurde 1922 zum "Fellow of the Royal Society" gewählt. Er war von 1928 bis 1937 "Master" im Pembroke College, Cambridge, war im "Council of the Royal Society" von 1932 bis 1934, und war Vize-Präsident von 1933-34. Das Mineral Hutchinsonit wurde nach ihm benannt.
