Geology

Besonders erwähnt werden müssen die Vorkommen von Rubinen (meist allerdings geringe Qualität) in übermäßigen Dimensionen bis zu 30cm, wobei häufig nur die Stadt Mysore erwähnt wird. Sie stellt das Synonym für die Herkunft der Steine in der weiteren Umgebung dar. - Grundsätzlich kommen die Rubine am Kontakt von basischen bis ultrabasischen mit sauren Gesteinen vor.

Neben den Edelsteinen werden vor allem Gold, Eisen-, Mangan- und Kupfererze sowie Magnesit, Bauxit und Granit gefördert.
