Detailed Description

Der Monte Somma ist ein ehemaliger Vulkan, der 79 n Chr. einstürzte (Magmakammer) und seit dem nur noch die bis zu 1132m ehem. Kraterwand vorhandnen ist. Auf der Caldera bildete sich der heutige Vesuv. Der Somma-Vesuv-Komplex belieferte Jahrhunderte lang alle Mineralien-Kabinette der Welt mit Mineralien, vor allem mit Vesuvianstufen von erlesener Qualität. Die schönsten davon kamen vom Monte Somma.
