Allgemeine Informationen
GeografieJapan ist ein Inselstaat: Die vier größten Inseln, von Nord nach Süd, sind: Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku und Kyushu. Desweiteren der Ryukyu-Archipel von Okinawa (S), sowie tausende meist kleinerer Inseln im Pazifik und im Japanischen Meer. Die höchsten Erhebungen bilden die japanischen Alpen ( auf der Insel Honshu ). Das Land wird von ca. 200 ( tw. aktiven ) Vulkanen geprägt, die bekanntesten sind: Fuji ( 3.776 m), Asahi-Dake, Asama, Sakurajima, Aso, Unsen. Im W durch das japanische Meer von Russland und der koreanischen Halbinsel getrennt; im SW das ostchinesische Meer, im E der Pazifik mit dem Japan-Graben. Japan ist eines der seismisch aktivsten Länder der Welt. Geologie:Die japanische Inselkette erhebt sich über einer der tektonisch instabilsten Zonen der Erde. Diese geophysikalischen Bewegungen führen immer wieder zu Spannungen, die sich in ca. 5000 Erbeben jährlich lösen. Japan ist das vulkanreichste Land der Erde. Ca. 2000 Feuerberge gelten als noch nicht erloschen. Die bedeutendste Bruchlinie ist die fossa magna, W von Tokio, auf der sich der Fujiyama und die vulkanischen Izu - Berge erheben. Japan verfügt nicht über industriell bedeutsame Bodenschätze. Auf den Inseln Hokkaido und Kiuschu kommen zwar große Kohlevorkommen vor, doch sind die Flöze meist von geringer Ausdehnung, so daß ein Abbau nicht lohnenswert ist. Andere fossile Energieträger: Eröl und Ergas, kommen auf Hokkaido und im N Honschus in nur sehr geringen Mengen vor. |
