Gypsum "tree", 2.1cm tall, collected from a fumarole on Shindake volcano, Kuchinoerabu island, June 2013, by Alfredo Petrov. This crystal aggregate probably formed by sulphuric acid vapours acting on Ca-rich minerals (anorthite and/or augite). Much larger such "trees" exist there, but difficult to collect because of their fragility.
