Detailed Description

Berühmtes Amethyst-Vorkommen in unwegsamen Gelände - Steilhänge (tief eingeschnittene Canyons in der Sierra Madre). Gefährliche Gegend wegen des Anbaus von Opium sowie der Produktion von Heroin und Kokain. Die langprismatischen Amethystkristalle im Dauphiné-Habitus zeichnen sich durch ein lebhaftes und sehr intensives blau-violettes Farbspiel aus. Häufig sind auch sog. Doppelender, die meist in der Mitte etwas getrübt und schwächer gefärbt sind. Gelegentlich haben die Amethystkristalle winzige Einschlüsse von Lepidokrokit. Die Drusenräume erreichen im Andesit eine Größe von einigen Zentimetern bis mehrere Meter (in Ausnahmefällen).

Achtung

Las Vigas ist nicht der Fundort der berühmten mexikanischen Amethyste, sondern lediglich der Verkaufsort. Die wahre Fundstelle ist Piedra Parada im benachbarten Municipio Tatatila.
