Pyroxene sind als häufige und gesteinsbildende Minerale bekannt

Collector information

Diopsid ist auch in starken Säuren stabil, so daß er sich z.B. mit Salzsäure (5-15%ig) ohne weiteres aus Marmoren herauslösen läßt. Konzentriertere Salzsäure ist dann zu vermeiden, wenn eisenreiche Klinochlore oder Magnetit zugegen sind. Bei Vorliegen einer Carbonatmatrix (Marmor!) darf zum Entfernen von Limonit o.ä. keinesfalls Oxalsäure eingesetzt werden (es bilden sich sonst häßliche weiße, nahezu unlösliche Krusten von Calciumoxalat!), sondern nur Natriumdithionit oder Salzsäure (Quelle: DUTHALFR & Weiß 1999, `Mineralien reinigen und aufbewahren`. Weise Verlag, 230 S.)

Additional Information

Das Mineral wurde 1800 von D'Andrada beschrieben; der Name leitet sich von den gr. Wörtern dis = doppelt und opsis = Anblick ab.
