Brucit findet sich in hydrothermalen Gängen, in Klüften metamorpher Kalkgesteine, als Umandlungsprodukt von Periklas in Marmor und in Klüften von Serpentiniten. |

Name from |
Brucit wurde nach dem amerikanischen Mineralogen Archibald Bruce (1777-1818) von François Sulpice Beudant, der es beschrieb, benannt. Archibald Bruce war der Herausgeber des heute noch bestehenden und weltweit bekannten American Mineralogist. |

Relevance, Usage |
Das Mineral an sich wird nicht zur Verwendung abgebaut. Der chemische Stoff Magnesiumhydroxyd wird anderweitig gewonnen und in der Mediizin u.a gegen Sodbrennen, als Flockungsmittel in der Abwasseraufbreitung, Als Flammschutzmittel etc. eingesetzt. |
