Name from

Das Mineral wurde von Allan Pring, E. Maud McBriar und William Birch in 1989 zu Ehren von Sir Maurice Alan Edgar Mawby (31. August 1904, Broken Hill, Australien - 4. August 1977, East Melbourne, Australien) benannt, Die Benennung ehrt Sir Mawby für seinen Beitrag zur australischen Bergbauindustrie und seine Expertise in den Mineralien von Broken Hill. Er war Metallurge und Minenchef. Er identifizierte 17 Arten aus Broken Hill, die zuvor nicht von dort bekannt waren. 1963 wurde er zum Ritter geschlagen.
