Benannt nach Anatoliy Iwanowitsch Tsepin (geb. 1946), Physiker des Instituts für Geologie der Erzlagerstätten, Petrographie, Mineralogie und Geochemie der Russischen Akademie der Wissenschaften (IGEM); Spezialist in der X-ray-Spektroskopie und der Elektronen-Mikrosonden-Analyse von Mineralien. In den 1970er Jahren initiierte er eine Elektron-Mikrosonden-Untersuchung der Labuntsovit-Gruppe Mineralien. Zudem für den dominierenden Ca-Anteil des Minerals.
