Grossmanit ist ein Mitglied der Clinopyroxen-Subgruppe. Es wurde 2009 von der IMA anerkannt.

Das Mineral, welches bisher nur in 1-7 Mikron großen Partikeln bekannt ist, ist hellgrau, transparent und hat eine Dichte von 3,41/cm3.

Die Typlokalität ist der Allende-Chondrit-Meteorit (Pueblito de Allende meteorite; Qutrixpileo meteorite, Pueblito de Allende, Chihuahua, Mexico. Begleitmineralien sind Spinel, Perovskit und Melilith. Das Mineral wurde nach Larence Rossman, Professor für Kosmochemie an der Universität Chicago benannt.
