Moeraki Boulders

Sedimentäre Konkretionen in beachtlicher Größe von ca. 0,5 bis 3<m. Je nach Ursprung sind sie nahezu kugelförmig ausgebildet oder abgeflacht.

Die Kugeln bestehen aus feinem Lehm, Ton und Schlamm, der durch Calcit zusammengekittet wird. In der außeren Schale ist der Calcit-Anteil höher als im Inneren. Dort kann der Anteil bis 20 % betragen und Lehm und Ton teilweise verdrängen.
