Detailed Description

Von der Coromandel Halbinsel auf der Nordinsel Neuseelands stammen typisch ausgebildete Karneole. Sie zeigen im äußeren Bereich teilweise angewitterte opake Zonen, die meist hell gefärbt sind. Im Inneren findet sich dann meist ein transluzenter rötlich gefärbter Bereich. Diese ursprünglich grau gefärbten Achate haben ihre rötliche Färbung durch die Aufnahme von Eisenverbindungen bekommen. Ähnliche Farbveränderungen gibt es immer wieder, so z.B. bei Steinen aus Madagaskar.
