Detailed Description

Achate kommen auch in der Provinz Otago vor. Es handelt sich um Gangachate und um deren Überreste. Sie kommen aus dem Bereich von Moeraki und Hampden ungefähr 30 Meilen südlich von Oamaru. Achate können als Strandachate gefunden werden, allerdings kommen einige ungewöhnliche, schwarz getönte Stücke aus einem Sumpf (Brackwassergebiet). Die besten Funde ergeben sich nach einem Hochwasser. Es ist nicht außergewöhnlich, in den Strandachaten nadelige Pseudomorphosen (Sagenite) festzustellen.
