Parsons, Arthur Leonard

Arthur Leonard Parsons (geb. 16.Sept. 1873 Mount Morris, New York, gest. 6. Jan. 1957 Toronto, Kanada) war ein US-amerik./ kanadischer Mineraloge und Kristallograph

Parsons besuchte die Universität New York und erhielt sein "A.B.-degree" 1896. Da er Lehrer werden wollte, wurde er als solcher tätig an der Hinsdale union school, Hinsdale, New York. Danach folgten die verschiedensten Berufe, wie Ölinspektor in New York, Assistenz-Registrar der Universität, Foote Mineral company, Philadelphia, Assistant Mineralogist, New York State Museum, US Geological Survey; the commission on Additional water Supply, New York city. Seine Tätigkeiten drehten sich immer mehr um die Mineralogie. Er war von 1903 bis 07 als Lehrer für Mineralogie an der Universität Minnesota. Dann ging er nach Kanada und erhielt eine Stelle als Dozent für Mineralogie an der Toronto Universität. Dann Assistenz-Professor, ordentlicher Professor und dann 1936 "Head of Department." 1920 wurde er zusätzlich Assistant Director of the "Royal Ontario Museum of Mineialogy." 1936 deren Leiter. Er baute die Sammlungen sehr reichhaltig aus. Seine besondere Liebe galt der Kristallographie.

Professor and Head of Mineralogy and Petrography, University of Toronto (1936-1943), Assistant Director (1920-1939) and Director (1939-1957) of the Royal Ontario Museum. Das Mineral Parsonsit wurde von Alfred Schoep 1923 nach ihm benannt.
