Detailed description
Streckeisen (1973) Ultramafische Gesteine sind plutonisch und werden anhand ihrer Zusammensetzung aus mafischen Mineralien klassifiziert. Gesteine weden als ultramafisch bezeichnet wenn der Mafit-Anteil mehr als 90% vom Gesamtgestein ausmacht. Zu den Ultramafiten gehören die Peridotite, Pyroxenite, Hornblendite und Glimmerite. Granat- oder spinellhaltige ultramafische Gesteine werden, wenn diese weniger als 5 % Anteil bilden, als granat- oder spinellführende Peridotite, Dunite etc. bezeichnet; wenn der Granat- Spinellanteil höher als 5 % ist, benutzt man die Terminologie Granat-Peridotit, Granat-Dunit, Plagioklas-Peridotit, Spinell-Peridotit, Granat-Peridotit etc. Pyroxenite ( mit Hornblende, Pyroxen und Olivin)
