Detailed Description

Geschichte:

Es handelt sich um eine alte Mine. Aufzeichnungen ergeben eine Förderung von 3000 t Kupfererz gegen Ende des 18. Jhd. Man förderte sowohl Zinn als auch Kupfer. Die Mine ist bis auf eine Tiefe von 53 Faden geteuft. Abbau bis ca. 1840. Von da an keine weiteren Abbauaktivitäten. In späteren Jahren wurden bei besseren Zinn-Preisen die Halden gekuttet.

Die Fundstelle ist bekannt für seine seltenen und ungewöhnlichen Sekundärmineralisationen der Cu-Pb-Fe Arsenat-Paragenese. Penberthy Croft ist der 1. bekannte Fundort für Jeanbandyit, Natanit und Segnitit auf den Britischen Inseln. Penberthy Croft ist die Typ-Lokalität für das Kupfer-Blei-Arsenat Bayldonit.
