Detailed Description

In der Morenci Kupfer-Mine südöstlich von Phoenix werden verschiedene Schmucksteine gefunden, die sich zu schönen Cabochons verarbeiten lassen: Malachit, Azurit, Chrysokoll und der sogenannte “Gem Silica”. “Gem Silica” ist ein türkisfarben bis blaugrün gefärbtes Material. Seine interessante Farbe erhält dieser Chalcedon durch feinstverteilte Einschlüsse von Chrysokoll. Chrysokoll ist ein schwierig zu bearbeitendes, recht weiches Material, während “Gem Silica” ein gutes Schleif- und Polierverhalten zeigt.

“Gem Silica” gibt es auch anderen Fundstellen - zum Beispiel von der Lily Mine in Peru.
