Der Red Canyon ist wie der Bryce Canyon Teil des Paunsaugunt Plateu. Der Name Red Canyon wird für zahlreiche Canyons verwendet so dass hohe Verwechslungsgefahr besteht. Der Red Canyon ist ohne Zugangsgebühr begehbar.

Die Claron-Kalkstein Formation gibt dem Red Canyon seine Hoodoos, Säulen die viele winterharte Pflanzen beheimaten, die es nur im Red Canyon geben soll. Es finden sich Borstenkiefern, die am längsten auf der Erde lebende Baumart, sowie weitere selte Pflanzenarten wie Claron Pfefferpflanze (Lepedium montanum var. claronense) und eine Plume der Gattung der Bartfaden die Red Canyon Beardtongue (Penstemon btracteatus).

Anders als im Bryce Canyon stehen im Red Canyon die Claron-Kalkstein-Säulen (Hoodoos) entlang der Straße und nicht als Amphietheater aufgereiht.
