Agates from Argentina
« am: 24 Mar 07, 07:38 »
Hello agate collectors : :)
I am new to this group and would like to share pictures of my agate collection from Argentina.
All agates are collected during long trips by Claudia (my wife) and myself (Ricardo)
This agate was found in a gravel pit alongside "Rio Uruguay" Argentinian Border.
I hope to post a lot more!!
Greetings from far away Argentina!! :) :)

Map of Argentina showing the division of the Patagonian Region with the rest of the Country.
The line in fucsia color , shows the "Rio Colorado" which divides the Patagonian Region from the rest of the Country. This is where we find the "Patagonian Agates". It has been very often said that the "Condor" type agates become from this Region , which is not true. "Condor" type agates , become from "Mendoza" Province near "San Rafael " City.

"Patagonian" Agate - Patagonian Region ; "Chubut" Province: Fig. 3

Also , Landscapes where "Condor" type agates are found and "Patagonian" agates are found are completely different ; sources can be as far as 2.400 km. distant one from another.
"Condor" type agate source : Fig. 4

"Patagonian" Agate source (no high mountains here): Fig. 5
As you can see ; these two sources are completely different one from another.
All the best!

Thanks VS .
In the following days we hope to post more agates found in Argentina from different sources.
Leaving this week-end to the Patagonian Region to Claudia´s relative "Estancia" in "Chubut" Province.
The picture seen is called "Piche" ; in the US , they call it "Armadillo".
This picture was shot during one of our multiple trips to Patagonia.
Now , it´s freezing there !! But we will also return in November.
All our best from far away Argentina.
