Quarz pseudomorph after danburite?
« am: 30 Mar 06, 22:05 »
I have bought a specimen of which I myself thought it was danburite, although I had my doubts. Asking some experts, they came with different opinions, varying from stilbite, calcite to quartz. As far as the hardness of the specimen is concerned, calcite and stilbite are no possibility. Quarz certainly is. But again, the species has a specific apearance of danburite. Looking at the stripe, hardnesse and so on, it is not possible to make a possitive decision for either quarz or danburite.
So, now I tend to think it is a pseudomorphose of quarz after danburite. Unlikely, but also impossible?
The piece comes from India, is white and has yellow calcite crystals on it.
Hopefully someone can tell me at least wether such a pseudomorphose is possible or maybe someone even recognizes this and knows about this one.
Thank you!

Hi,

Some "Flachquarze" can have the appearance of Danburite (as wel as Euclase), the vertical lines are in that case in fact the horizontal striations of the (in that case) very short but wide prism faces of the quarz crystal.

Hi,

Mindat doesn't has any danburite from India unfortunately. Would apophyllite come in question (being the pseudomorphed mineral)?

I guess some photos would help.
