Ge­o­log­ic and min­er­a­log­i­cal ex­pe­di­tion through Namibia and the Na­maqua­landReport about a geologic - and geology of deposits excursion through central and southern Namibia as well as the Namaqualand bordering to the South and parts of the Northern cape in autumn, 2009., Amongst other localities in Namibia the author visited the tin deposit Uis, the explorations project Namib Lead near Swakopmund, as well as the important mines Rosh Pinah and Scorpion Zinc in the south of Namibia. In the Republic South Africa the trip led to the copper mining region of Okiep as well as the lead zinc mines of Aggeneys and, finally, to the Kalahari manganese ore districts of Postmasburg and Kuruman.

Stel­ten­bergIm Steinbruch stehen Riffkalke an, die stellenweise dolomitisiert sind. Aber es finden sich Bereiche in denen mergelige und bituminöse Schiefer anstehen, die auf geringe Wasserbewegung hinweisen. Bei angewittertem Gestein lassen sich als Riffbildner Korallen und Stromatoporen erkennen. Die Kalke beinhalten eine reichhaltige Meeresfauna, die typisch für den obergivetischen Massenkalk ist, und durch Uncites gryphus und Stringocephalus burtini als Leitfossilien geprägt sind. The Mu­nich Mi­cro­moun­ters and their Lithothek„What will be the fate of my collection once I will no longer be able to collect? There are specimens of unique beauty and extreme rarity in the collection, pieces that cannot be replaced since some localities are closed or have been obliterated. All this might be thrown away because not many people realise the value and importance hidden in these little unimpressive boxes”. Many micromounters are worried by these considerations and other factors. “My collection is an important part of my life and of my personality. If my collection dissapears, I too, will cease to exist without trace”. We, the Micromounters of the Münchener Mineralienfreunde, are no exception. Many times the future of our collections was subject of our discussions and conversations. Children and grand children are not always appreciative of their parents’ or grandparents’ passion.

Sym­me­trieele­menteBetrachtet man die Struktur von Kristallen, erkennt mam meistens verschiedene Arten von Symmetrien, wie Translationen, Spiegelungen oder Drehsymmetrien. Der Grund für das Auftreten dieser Symmetrien liegt darin, daß bestimmte Atomanordnungen in der Struktur besonders stabil sind; eine hohe Symmetrie erlaubt dann die ständige Wiederholung dieser besonders stabilen Konfigurationen in der Struktur.

Mag­ma­tis­musMagmatismus ist die zusammenfassende Bezeichnung für alle mit dem Magma zusammenhängenden geologischen Prozesse, Vorgänge und Erscheinungen. Der Magmatismus umfasst sowohl den den Plutonismus, d.h., die Prozesse, die zur Bildung von Magmen in der Erde führen, ihre Bewegung verursachen, die Kristallisation steuern, das Aufsteigen, die Bildung der Erdkruste und letzendlich die Erstarrung als auch den Vulkanismus, bei dem das Magma die Oberfläche erreicht und als Lava extrudiert wird. Durch Magmatismus entstehen Magmatite, d.h.magmatische plutonische Gesteine im Erdinneren und vulkanische Gesteine als Folge des Vulkanismus.
