TwinsThe study of twins starts due to the very first beginnings of crystallography as a science. Not negligible for this reason, the idea or the concept of a twin crystal are often associated with a macroscopic building. Modern studies at the nano scale have shown that the formation of twins can occur at a very early stage of crystal growing. Based on these findings, it does beg the request to reconsider the formation mechanisms, and adjacency to the newly different categories. (Text in german)

Grube Häusler & Co. - Ne­bel­berg... Eigentümlich ist hier insbesondere, daß die ausgebildeten Flußspatkristalle ( es wurde bis jetzt fast nur das Hexaeder gefunden ), immer stark verunreinigt sind, während das kristalline Gangmaterial weit höhere Reinheit besitzt. Die Verunreinigung geht soweit, daß z.B. Kupferkies, Pyrit, Quarz oder Ton im Innern der in Intervallen aufgebauten Kristalle gefärbte Schichten bildet. Es scheinen hier erst die zuletzt in die Höhe gestiegenen Lösungen so intensiv mit Sulfiden verunreinigt gewesen zu sein. How long people processed galena as main ore for the production of lead is unknown. As lead inter alia used as an additive to various melts (e.g. to bronze and the salt-cementation process for gold extraction) one can assume that the properties of this mineral were known before 3000 BC. Other sources speak of a history of lead about 7000-9000 years BC back.

Ge­o­log­i­cal Por­trait - The AlpsThe Alps are the highest and most extensive mountain range system that lies entirely in Europe, stretching approximately 1,200 km across eight Alpine countries from Austria and Slovenia in the east, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Germany, and France to the west, and Italy and Monaco to the south. The Caucasus Mountains are higher, and the Urals longer, but both lie partly in Asia. The Alps were formed over tens of millions of years as the African and Eurasian tectonic plates collided. Extreme shortening caused by the event resulted in marine sedimentary rocks rising by thrusting and folding into high mountain peaks such as Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn. Mont Blanc spans the French–Italian border, and at 4,810 m is the highest mountain in the Alps. The Alpine region area contains about a hundred peaks higher than 4,000 m known as the "four-thousanders".

Der Erstere, der edle Topas, ist durchsichtig und durchscheinend, von starkem Glasglanze, und am häufigsten von gelber, besonders weingelber, Farbe, aber auch wasserhell, graulich-, grünlich- und gelblichweiß, oder Berg- und Seladongrün. Bei dem Sächsischen ist die weingelbe Farbe die herrschende und von allen Graden der Höhe; bei dem brasilianischen die honiggelbe. Die Übergänge ins rosenrothe, meergrüne, bläuliche etc. sind oft nur schwach, doch so merklich, daß man sie gewahrt. Er kommt gewöhnlich als vier= oder achtseitige Säule vor, die beim Brasilianischen mit vier, sechs auch acht Flächen zugespitzt, beim Sächsischen aber meistentheils mit einer sechsseitigen Fläche abgestumpft ist. Die Seitenflächen der Kristalle sind stets in der Länge gestreift; die übrigen Flächen aber glatt. Der Querbruch ist gerad= und vollkommenblättrig, der Längenbruch hingegen kleinmuschlig. Das Min­er­al­o­gische Mu­se­um Mar­burgIm altehrwürdigen Gebäude, 1515 als Kornspeicher errichtet, befindet sich das Mineralogische Museum der Stadt Marburg. Die nach der Klassifizierung von Strunz aufgebauten Sammlung wird in zahlreichen Vitrinen auf drei Stockwerken präsentiert. Die gesamte Lehrsammlung umfasst ca. 45.000 Mineralien und ca. 55.000 Gesteinsproben, von denen etwa 2.500 in den Vitrinen zu sehen sind.

Besonders hervorzuheben ist im 3. Stock die Ausstellung "Rio Grande do Sul - Brasilien", die dem Mineralogischen Museum und der Philipps-Universität von dem Sammlerehepaar Balzer 2005 gestiftet wurde. In zwei Großraumvitrinen werden Amethyste, Quarze, Calcite, Achate und Edelsteine aus Brasilien präsentiert. Die ästhetisch sehr ansprechende Ausstellung gehört zu den besten ihrer Art in Europa.

Nach Vereinbarung können auch Schulklassen durch die Ausstellungsräume geführt werden. Besonders hervorzuheben sind auch die regelmäßig stattfindenden Sonderausstellungen, die jedes Jahr mit einem anderen Thema von Dezember bis April zu sehen sind.
