Ge­ol­o­gisch­es Por­trait "Karst"... Der Begriff Karst steht für die Gesamtheit der Formen von durchlässigen, wasserlöslichen Gesteinen (z.B. Kalkstein, Gips, Salze), die durch Oberflächen- und Grundwasser ausgelaugt werden. Als verkarstende Gesteine gelten in der Reihenfolge ihre Löslichkeit Salze (Anhydrit, Gips, Kalk- und Quarzgesteine (Sandstein, Quarzite)). Durch Lösungsvorgänge kommt es zu charakteristischen Karsterscheinungen. An der Oberfläche sind dies z.B. Karren (Schratten), Dolinen, Uvalas, Poljen, Schlotten, Erdorgeln. Das Min­er­al­o­gische Mu­se­um Mar­burgIm altehrwürdigen Gebäude, 1515 als Kornspeicher errichtet, befindet sich das Mineralogische Museum der Stadt Marburg. Die nach der Klassifizierung von Strunz aufgebauten Sammlung wird in zahlreichen Vitrinen auf drei Stockwerken präsentiert. Die gesamte Lehrsammlung umfasst ca. 45.000 Mineralien und ca. 55.000 Gesteinsproben, von denen etwa 2.500 in den Vitrinen zu sehen sind.

Besonders hervorzuheben ist im 3. Stock die Ausstellung "Rio Grande do Sul - Brasilien", die dem Mineralogischen Museum und der Philipps-Universität von dem Sammlerehepaar Balzer 2005 gestiftet wurde. In zwei Großraumvitrinen werden Amethyste, Quarze, Calcite, Achate und Edelsteine aus Brasilien präsentiert. Die ästhetisch sehr ansprechende Ausstellung gehört zu den besten ihrer Art in Europa.

Nach Vereinbarung können auch Schulklassen durch die Ausstellungsräume geführt werden. Besonders hervorzuheben sind auch die regelmäßig stattfindenden Sonderausstellungen, die jedes Jahr mit einem anderen Thema von Dezember bis April zu sehen sind.

Min­er­al por­trait Baryt (in ger­man)In the late Middle Ages massive amount of Baryt which phosphoresced when it was gently heated, were discovered in Italy. This stone was named after its place of discovery "Pietra fosforica di Bologna" (phosphorescent Bologna stone) and was of great interest to alchemists. Although the name baryte has been assigned centuries later, it may be assumed that the Bologna stone is the first description in the literature. A portrait about this famous mineral by Peter Seroka.

Marien­schacht...Gegenstand des Unternehmens war der Bergbau auf Flußspat, Blei- und Zinkerz und andere beibrechende Mineralien, sowie deren Aufbereitung und Veredelung. Wirtschaftliche Hauptaufgabe der Grube war die Versorgung der Riedel-de Haen AG mit dem für die Flußsäureproduktion im Werk Seelze erforderlichen Säurespat. Ge­o­log­ic and min­er­a­log­i­cal ex­pe­di­tion through Namibia and the Na­maqua­landReport about a geologic - and geology of deposits excursion through central and southern Namibia as well as the Namaqualand bordering to the South and parts of the Northern cape in autumn, 2009., Amongst other localities in Namibia the author visited the tin deposit Uis, the explorations project Namib Lead near Swakopmund, as well as the important mines Rosh Pinah and Scorpion Zinc in the south of Namibia. In the Republic South Africa the trip led to the copper mining region of Okiep as well as the lead zinc mines of Aggeneys and, finally, to the Kalahari manganese ore districts of Postmasburg and Kuruman.
