Up­per and Low­er An­te­lope Cany­onBeim Antilope Canyon handelt es sich um eine in Jahrtausenden aus Navajo Sandstein heraus gespülte Schlucht, die durch ihre geschwungen Formen und Lichtspiele einen besonderen Reiz auf den Betrachter ausübt. Beste Zeit für einen Besuch ist Mittag bis Nachmittag, da dann das Beste Farbspiel zu beobachten ist. Ein Besuch sollte nur bei strahlendem Sonnenschein vorgenommen werden, da nur dann die farblichen Differenzen von violett bis leuchtendem Orange richtig zur Geltung kommen. Bryce Cany­on Na­tio­n­al ParkEmerged as a product of erosion from water, frost and wind which has shaped the spectacular pillars (hoodoos) the Bryce Canyon National Park is one of the most spectacular natural amphitheater. The eroded Claron limestone in which also fossils are found, leaves the impression of a subtle army from limestone warriors. Named after the Mormon Pioneer Ebenezer Bryce, the natural spectacle was 1928 declared as national park.

Grube Cä­cilia im Wölsen­dor­fer Re­vi­er1936 erwirbt die Firma "Saline Ludwigshalle AG", Bad Wimpfen, die Grube Kallmünzer. Daraufhin wurde der Firmenname ( Besitzer) in "Flußspatwerk Schwarzenfeld GmbH, vorm. Anton Kallmünzer" geändert. Die Flußspatgrube wird von nun an Grube Cäcilia, teils auch Grube Cäcilie, genannt. Anton Kallmünzer bleibt Teilhaber und Geschäftsführer.

Min­er­al por­trait Baryt (in ger­man)In the late Middle Ages massive amount of Baryt which phosphoresced when it was gently heated, were discovered in Italy. This stone was named after its place of discovery "Pietra fosforica di Bologna" (phosphorescent Bologna stone) and was of great interest to alchemists. Although the name baryte has been assigned centuries later, it may be assumed that the Bologna stone is the first description in the literature. A portrait about this famous mineral by Peter Seroka.

Po­lari­sa­tions­mikroskop... ist ein spezielles Lichtmikroskop, welches linear polarisiertes Licht mit Polarisatoren erzeugt und analysiert. So wird die Doppelbrechung bei optisch anisotropen Mineralen deutlich sichtbar, aber auch optische Aktivitäten können bestimmt werden.. Es dient Petrographen für die kristalloptische Analyse (das mikroskopische Studium) der Gesteine, ihrer Minerale und ihres Gefüges.

Durchsichtige Minerale der Gesteine werden in Dünnschliffen (ca. 0,02 mm) oder als Pulver untersucht. Zu den optischen Eigenschaften, die in dem zu untersuchenden Mineral bestimmt werden können, gehört neben dem Brechungsindex oder den Hauptbrechungsindizes auch die Doppelbrechung (Birefringenz), welche mit Hilfe des Polarisationsmikroskopes im durchfallenden Licht bestimmt wird.

Ge­o­log­ic and min­er­a­log­i­cal ex­pe­di­tion through Namibia and the Na­maqua­landReport about a geologic - and geology of deposits excursion through central and southern Namibia as well as the Namaqualand bordering to the South and parts of the Northern cape in autumn, 2009., Amongst other localities in Namibia the author visited the tin deposit Uis, the explorations project Namib Lead near Swakopmund, as well as the important mines Rosh Pinah and Scorpion Zinc in the south of Namibia. In the Republic South Africa the trip led to the copper mining region of Okiep as well as the lead zinc mines of Aggeneys and, finally, to the Kalahari manganese ore districts of Postmasburg and Kuruman.

Min­er­al Por­trait PyriteThe term used in the plural "pyrites" has often been misused in the past or in common for marcasite, chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite and other yellow to brass-colored minerals. The word pyrite is derived from the Greek "pyrites lithos" (derived pyr = fire and lithos = stone) and describes a characteristic of the mineral, when rubbing against steel or flint (flint) to generate sparks. In prehistoric tombs pyrite concretions and unrolled pyrite where found, which supposed to be used for lighting a fire. (Article in German)
