The Mu­nich Mi­cro­moun­ters and their Lithothek„What will be the fate of my collection once I will no longer be able to collect? There are specimens of unique beauty and extreme rarity in the collection, pieces that cannot be replaced since some localities are closed or have been obliterated. All this might be thrown away because not many people realise the value and importance hidden in these little unimpressive boxes”. Many micromounters are worried by these considerations and other factors. “My collection is an important part of my life and of my personality. If my collection dissapears, I too, will cease to exist without trace”. We, the Micromounters of the Münchener Mineralienfreunde, are no exception. Many times the future of our collections was subject of our discussions and conversations. Children and grand children are not always appreciative of their parents’ or grandparents’ passion.

Schon die Taurisker und insbesondere die Pisontier, Bewohner des ehemaligen Mittel-Norikum, wussten um die reichern Goldadern und verlegten sich auf die Ausbeutung derselben so wie auf die Goldwäscherei in den Flüssen und Bächen. Die Armuth des Landes machte den Bergbau zu einer ihrer Haupterwerbsquellen. Bei dem Umstande, als viele der Erzgänge edel zu Tage ausbeissen, auch oft blos nur aus einer lehmigen goldhaltigen Masse (Besteg) bestanden, die mit den primitivsten Werkzeugen gewonnen werden konnte, war die Bearbeitung leicht. Sowohl in Kärnten als in Salzburg kann man mehrere in Schrammarbeit getriebene Stollen sehen, die mit Sicherheit entweder aus jener Zeitperiode oder der darauffolgenden unter den Römern herrühren. The "Eisen­ham­mer" (iron ham­mer) to He­im­buchen­thal The former "Eisenhammer" (iron hammer) to Heimbuchenthal has to show a very interesting history. The hammer mill established at the beginning of the 18th century reached at the end of the 18th century in the possession of the family Rexroth under whose guidance the company came to the full blossom. The squires showed a high social engagement which was reflected in the reimbursement of the workers, but also in the enlargement of the entrance ways. In specially constructed schools up to 30 children were teaches on the hammer mill property. On one, from oaks surrounded cemetery the late squires and their members were buried. In 1891 the company was discontinued and the hammer mill was converted into a court estate. From the industrial monument all buildings except the great smithy are even today in a very good state.

De­for­mierte Kris­talleEs gibt nirgendwo im Universum einen perfekten Kristall, denn jeder Kristall hat eine Oberfläche und für die Atome auf der Oberfläche ist die Umgebung anders als für Atome im Volumen. Die Oberfläche ist somit ein Defekt. Reale Kristalle sind damit also Kristalle, die Defekte enthalten.

Eine einfache Definition für Defekte in Kristallen ist die Betrachtung der Umgebung der Atome im Kristall. Falls die unmittelbare Umgebung - streng genommen im zeitlichen Mittel, da die Atome im Kristall wegen der Temperatur um ihre Position wackeln - um ein beliebig herausgegriffenes Atom anders ist als die Umgebung eines Referenzatom in einem perfekten Teil des Kristalls, ist ein Defekt Ursache für diese Änderung. Für ein Atom auf der Oberfläche eines Kristalls ist diese Bedingung zweifellos erfüllt, da die eine Hälfte des Raumes keine Atome des Kristalls hat. Es gibt also prinzipiell keine perfekten Kristalle.

How long people processed galena as main ore for the production of lead is unknown. As lead inter alia used as an additive to various melts (e.g. to bronze and the salt-cementation process for gold extraction) one can assume that the properties of this mineral were known before 3000 BC. Other sources speak of a history of lead about 7000-9000 years BC back.
