The Mu­nich Mi­cro­moun­ters and their Lithothek„What will be the fate of my collection once I will no longer be able to collect? There are specimens of unique beauty and extreme rarity in the collection, pieces that cannot be replaced since some localities are closed or have been obliterated. All this might be thrown away because not many people realise the value and importance hidden in these little unimpressive boxes”. Many micromounters are worried by these considerations and other factors. “My collection is an important part of my life and of my personality. If my collection dissapears, I too, will cease to exist without trace”. We, the Micromounters of the Münchener Mineralienfreunde, are no exception. Many times the future of our collections was subject of our discussions and conversations. Children and grand children are not always appreciative of their parents’ or grandparents’ passion.

Min­er­alien­por­trait - TürkisTürkis ist einer der ältesten Edelsteine der Menschheitsgeschichte und wurde schon vor dem Jahre 5.000 v.Chr. von den alten Ägyptern als Schmuckstück und für Einlegearbeiten verwendet. Die vier Gold-Armbänder auf dem mumifizierten Arm der Königin Zar (Ehefrau des zweiten Herrschers der Ersten Dynastie, 3032-3000 v.Chr.) sind mit Türkis belegt. Berühmt sind auch die mit Türkis ausgelegte Totenmaske von Tutenchamun und die vielen weiteren Beigaben (Halsbänder, e.g. Pektorale) aus seinem Grab. Ab der Zeit der ersten ägyptischen Dynastien wurde Türkis dann über 2000 Jahre lang von ägyptischen Sklaven aus den Maghara-Wadi-Gruben auf der Halbinsel Sinai geschürft. Er war so begehrt, dass im gleichen Zeitraum Imitationen aus Fayence hergestellt wurden, d.h. glasiertes Steingut, das so eingefärbt werden konnte, dass es Türkis ähnelte ... This study illustrates a notable epitaxial relationship between Boltwoodite (green luminescent) and Sklodowskite (yellow luminescent) on a gypsum matrix, discovered at Lavrion, Greece. Luminescent differentiation under UV, combined with spectroscopic and EDX analyses, revealed the intergrowth of the two uranium silicates—providing insight into their growth and crystallization behavior

Allgemein und bergmännisch werden als Schiefer deutlich parallel angeordnete, in dünnen, ebenen Platten spaltbare Gesteine bezeichnet. Unter diesen Sammelbegriff fallen jedoch auch Tonschiefer, Schieferton, Tonstein, kristalline Schiefer, echte und unechte, kristalline und metamorphe Schiefer und viele, viele synonyme Schiefer-Wortgebilde und lokale Bezeichnungen- was nicht zu einer eindeutigen Definition beiträgt.

Nicht anders war (und ist) die Verwirrung in England, wo die Begriffe slate, shale und shist nicht deutlich getrennt wurden; im untertage Kohlebergbau hieß shale auch häufig slate. In Spanien heißt der für Dächer und Tafeln verwendete Schiefer pizarra, petrologisch aber equisto bzw. arcilla equistosa; im französischen heißen wissenschaftlich alle Schiefer schiste, aber der im Steinbruch gebrochene Schiefer ist .... Emeralds, aquamarines, heliodors and morganites were and are used for the manufacture of jewelry because of their beauty. The common beryl is the main source of the metal beryllium; 80 % of beryllium ore is mined in the United States. The largest known crystal reached a length of 18 m.

Min­er­al Days in Mu­nich 2012 or „The Mu­nich Show“For the 49th year once again the Munich Mineral Show was held. A few years ago under the old leadership the motto almost entirely stood under the theme of minerals and fossils. This year not only the name seems to change away from the "Munich Mineral Show" changing to "The Munich Show". The new exhibition management, led by the young Mr. Keilmann seems not quite knowing where to go or has something bigger in mind. One can imagine something in "Munich Mineral Days", it is difficult in the name "The Munich Show".
