Dev­il's Pul­pitActually, this is a picturesque place in a well-kept forest. Nevertheless, in the past, evil itself is said to have preached to the damned here from a large, solitary, towering rock spur. Today, the term Devil's Pulpit inspires one to play with associations, as do the drawings of agates found here. Their fantastic outlines, coupled with the unusual shape of the secondary rock, evoke images in the viewer that he would not have suspected in a stone. And on the devil's pulpit no longer an evil demon is waiting for the agate collector, but other executive powers threatening with purgatory... a contribution by Klaus Schäfer and others (in german)

Sil­ver - min­er­al­o­gy, min­ing and his­to­rySilver and silver minerals are amongst the most desirabe objects since the beginning of mineral collecting. Silver wires and curls from Kongsberg and Freiberg are the coronation of each mineral collection. Beautiful pyrargyrites and proustites enhance each collector's heatbeat.

However, silver is not only the essence of high-end collecting but has contributed essentially to the history of mankind. Uncountable remain the millions of greek and phenician slaves, middle age european miners and millions of indios who have left their lives for silver.

Silver is one of the seven metals known since thousands of years, already been mentioned in the bible. Mountains of slag in Asia Minor, Arabia and on the agaen islands prove technologies to produce silver from lead ore; knowledges people had been acquainted with since at least 4.000 year B.C. Since the antiquity silver had been used to make finery and ornaments, however, most of this metal was used to stamp coins. The monetary system of many countries was based on silver; the one, who owned silver, was able to finance wars. One of the main pillars of power of Athens, Rome, the Phenicians, the church, the kings and queens of Castilia, the Austrian house of Habsburg and, last not least, of the Americans had been their control over the richest silver mines and the wars, which they made by paying their soldiery with silver coins.

Hel­go­landHelgoland, was im niederdeutschen "Heiliges Land" bedeutet, ist Deutschlands einzige Hochseeinsel, wenngleich sie die Kriterien einer solchen nicht erfüllt. Die ca. 2 km2 große Insel liegt mitsamt ihrer kleineren Nachbarinsel, der Düne, ca. 60 km vor der Elbmündung in der Deutschen Bucht (Germanisches Becken), wie dieser Teil der östlichen Nordsee genannt wird. Die Insel ist neben den beiden dänischen Inseln Møn und Seeland, und der Kreideinsel Rügen in der Ostsee ebenfalls aus festem Gestein aufgebaut, was sie deutlich von den aus Lockersedimenten aufgebauten Nordfriesischen Inseln unterscheidet. Mit 245 Millionen Jahre altem Gestein ist sie zugleich auch die älteste Insel. Die auffällige Rotfärbung des Inselgesteins wurde durch intensive lateritische Verwitterung und die Oxidation von Eisen hervorgerufen. Ihr Alter, das Erscheinungsbild und die isolierte Lage macht sie also zu etwas besonderem, weshalb ihr jedes Jahr ca. eine halbe Million Menschen einen Besuch abstatten. Sie ist aber ... Grube St. Ge­org (Reich­er Ge­org)„Den heutigen Befunden nach bildete damals ein einziger steil einfallender „Erzfall“ die Quelle für den kurzzeitigen märchenhaften Reichtum. Dem Ausstrich des Ganges folgen über Tage einige 4–8 m tiefe Pingen, die verbrochene Schürfschächtchen darstellen und bis auf die Sohle des St. Georg Stollens reichten. Das erst in diesem Niveau aufsetzende eigentliche Erzmittel wies eine streichende Erstreckung von kaum mehr als 50 m auf und reichte bis zur Sohle des St. Jacobsglücker Stollens hinab. Sowohl nach Nordwesten als auch nach Südosten ließen sich nirgendwo Fortsetzungen der Vererzung lokalisieren. Weitere edle Erze fanden sich auf verschiedenen flachen Nebentrümern im Hangenden des Hauptganges, oberhalb des St. Johannes Stollen im Bereich des sogenannten Backofens

It is part of the so-called Painted Desert and shows with its various layers a strange and impressive scenery. Characterized by erosion, it is a treasure trove of fossils. The rock formations show a chronicle of the past and give clues about the events of bygone days. In the park you can exposure rock strata until 234 million years ago. The colorful desert hills, the flat mesas and shaped hills attributable primarily to Chinle Formation and are fluvial sediments, caused by water movement. Countless fossilized wood and tree trunks bear witness to a scrumptious earlier fauna.
