Min­er­alien­por­trait Rho­dochrositRhodochrosit dürfte aufgrund seiner auffallend rosaroten Farbe zu den ältesten Schmucksteinen der alten Welt gehören, was u.a. durch archäologische Funde von Grabbeigaben in alten äygpischen Gräbern belegt ist. Ob dieses Mangancarbonat bewusst oder gezielt abgebaut wurde, ist nicht bekannt. Sicher ist jedoch, dass die alten Ägypter Manganerze aus dolomitisierten Kalksteinen in der östlichen Wüste und auf der Halbinsel Sinai abbauten, wo mit Sicherheit auch Rhodochrosit vorkam und als Nebenprodukt zur Schmuckherstellung diente.

Thus from about 1240, the tin deposits (with the beginnings of subsurface mining also silver) around Ehrenfriedersdorf was mined. By finding rich silver adits in the 2nd third of the 15th Century the great mountain towns like Schneeberg (municipal law since 1477) and Annaberg (municipal law since 1496) was founded. This study illustrates a notable epitaxial relationship between Boltwoodite (green luminescent) and Sklodowskite (yellow luminescent) on a gypsum matrix, discovered at Lavrion, Greece. Luminescent differentiation under UV, combined with spectroscopic and EDX analyses, revealed the intergrowth of the two uranium silicates—providing insight into their growth and crystallization behavior
