Public Sci­ence Pro­jects / Sk­lo­dowskite and Bolt­woodite from Lavri­on – an In­ter­est­ing Epi­taxyAt the site Paliokamariza Mine No. 18 (Plaka, Lavrion, Attica, Greece), yellow, needle-like uranium minerals were observed growing on gypsum. Under UV light (365 nm), two distinct fluorescence colors appeared: shorter, thinner needles glowed bright green, while longer, well-formed needles glowed yellow...

This study illustrates a notable epitaxial relationship between Boltwoodite (green luminescent) and Sklodowskite (yellow luminescent) on a gypsum matrix, discovered at Lavrion, Greece. Luminescent differentiation under UV, combined with spectroscopic and EDX analyses, revealed the intergrowth of the two uranium silicates—providing insight into their growth and crystallization behavior

Seine absolute Höhe (über NN) beträgt 1558 m, er überragt die umgebende Ebene auf einem Sockel von Sedimentgesteinen um etwa 264 m. Seine Basis besitzt einen Durchmesser von ungefähr 300 m, am abgeflachten Gipfelbereich beträgt dieser etwa 120 m.

The Ts­in­gys of Mada­gas­carOne of Madagascar's geological specialties are the so-called Tsingy: bizarre, at first sight hostile Karst landscapes, though form, due to the inaccessibility, a refugial area for some species. The word Tsingy means "walking one tip-toes" or "where one cannot walk bare-foot" in Malagasy language, an accurate description for the partially razor-sharp rock formations which can reach 20 m in height and with ends which can be as thin as pencils.

Best known and most impressive are the Tsingy of Bemaraha in the West of the island and the Tsingy of Ankarana in the North, both widespread Karst areas. In the North, as well, about 10 km south of the city of Antsiranana, one can find the Red Tsingy which have been washed out of the lateritic layer of earth.

Ge­o­log­ic and min­er­a­log­i­cal ex­pe­di­tion through Namibia and the Na­maqua­landReport about a geologic - and geology of deposits excursion through central and southern Namibia as well as the Namaqualand bordering to the South and parts of the Northern cape in autumn, 2009., Amongst other localities in Namibia the author visited the tin deposit Uis, the explorations project Namib Lead near Swakopmund, as well as the important mines Rosh Pinah and Scorpion Zinc in the south of Namibia. In the Republic South Africa the trip led to the copper mining region of Okiep as well as the lead zinc mines of Aggeneys and, finally, to the Kalahari manganese ore districts of Postmasburg and Kuruman.
