Pet­ri­fied For­est Na­tio­n­al ParkThe Petrified Forest is primarily a geological park, which owes its origin to the climate and geological events. It is part of the so-called Painted Desert and shows with its various layers a strange and impressive scenery. Characterized by erosion, it is a treasure trove of fossils. The rock formations show a chronicle of the past and give clues about the events of bygone days. In the park you can exposure rock strata until 234 million years ago. The colorful desert hills, the flat mesas and shaped hills attributable primarily to Chinle Formation and are fluvial sediments, caused by water movement. Countless fossilized wood and tree trunks bear witness to a scrumptious earlier fauna.

Kala­va­sos auf ZypernDie Bodenschätze der Insel stammen vor allem aus submarinen Gebirgsbildungen. Kupfer, das als Sulfid vorkommt, entstand, als am Tethysboden Meerwasser in die vorhandenen Gesteinsklüfte eindrang und die im Nebengestein vorkommenden Metalle löste. Diese stiegen dann als Kupfer-, Eisen- und Zinksulfide auf. Die untermeerisch geförderten Basalte erstarrten wulst- und kissenartig und bilden die sogenannte Kissenlava (Pillolaven).

TwinsThe study of twins starts due to the very first beginnings of crystallography as a science. Not negligible for this reason, the idea or the concept of a twin crystal are often associated with a macroscopic building. Modern studies at the nano scale have shown that the formation of twins can occur at a very early stage of crystal growing. Based on these findings, it does beg the request to reconsider the formation mechanisms, and adjacency to the newly different categories. (Text in german)

St. Joachim­sthal (Jachy­mov)Kaiser Siegmund schenkte seinem Kanzler Graf Kaspar Schlick die Herrschaft um die Stadt Schlackenwerth (Ostrov) 1434. Um diese Zeit dürfte schon in der Umgebung von Joachimsthal ein kleiner Bergbau umgegangen sein. Die Ansiedlung hieß Konradsgrün. Ein Nachfahre begründete mit anderen zusammen 1515 eine erste Gewerkschaft. Wobei 1515 für die ersten Erzfunde steht. 1516 weiß man von reicher Ausbeute an Silber. Dies lockte boom-artig viele Deutsche und Tiroler in das neugegründete Joachimsthal. Graf Schlick ließ zum Schutz die Burg Freudenstein erbauen. 1519 begann er mit der Prägung der Schlicken- bzw. Mit elf Jahren wurde er für die geistliche Laufbahn bestimmt und begann 1778 mit der priesterlichen Ausbildung im Collegium Germanicum in Rom. Sil­ver - min­er­al­o­gy, min­ing and his­to­rySilver and silver minerals are amongst the most desirabe objects since the beginning of mineral collecting. Silver wires and curls from Kongsberg and Freiberg are the coronation of each mineral collection. Beautiful pyrargyrites and proustites enhance each collector's heatbeat.

However, silver is not only the essence of high-end collecting but has contributed essentially to the history of mankind. Uncountable remain the millions of greek and phenician slaves, middle age european miners and millions of indios who have left their lives for silver.

Silver is one of the seven metals known since thousands of years, already been mentioned in the bible. Mountains of slag in Asia Minor, Arabia and on the agaen islands prove technologies to produce silver from lead ore; knowledges people had been acquainted with since at least 4.000 year B.C. Since the antiquity silver had been used to make finery and ornaments, however, most of this metal was used to stamp coins. The monetary system of many countries was based on silver; the one, who owned silver, was able to finance wars. One of the main pillars of power of Athens, Rome, the Phenicians, the church, the kings and queens of Castilia, the Austrian house of Habsburg and, last not least, of the Americans had been their control over the richest silver mines and the wars, which they made by paying their soldiery with silver coins.
