Dev­il's Pul­pitActually, this is a picturesque place in a well-kept forest. Nevertheless, in the past, evil itself is said to have preached to the damned here from a large, solitary, towering rock spur. Today, the term Devil's Pulpit inspires one to play with associations, as do the drawings of agates found here. Their fantastic outlines, coupled with the unusual shape of the secondary rock, evoke images in the viewer that he would not have suspected in a stone. Isle of MullDie ältesten Gesteine Großbritanniens, 2,7 Milliarden Jahre alte Sedimente und Aufschlüsse, die hochgradig metamorphe, vulkanische und magmatische Gesteine zeigen sowie über 1000 m mächtige, plateaubildende tertiäre Lavadecken: All das bietet die "Isle of Mull". Sie ist zudem Typlokalität zweier Mineralien und Heimat cm großer Saphire. Erik Hock lädt uns mit seinem Beitrag zu einem spanndenen Rundgang auf diese Insel ein und gibt uns einen Einblick in die dortigen geologischen Gegebenheiten. FroschEin Geleucht des Bergmanns. Frosch werden diese Geleuchte in Anlehnung an ihr Aussehen genannt. Jede Zeit und jedes Bergbaugebiet hatte unterschiedliche Frösche. Es gab den erzgebirgischen Frosch, den westfälischen, den Siegerländer usw.. Die Montage mittels Hartlot geschah in einem Schmiedefeuer. Als Flussmittel diente Stroh. Die Besonderheit hierbei ist das Lot, auch Rotschlag oder Gelbschlag genannt. Das körnige Lot wurde mittels einer Tülle den Baugruppen zugegeben. Dieses Lot dient heute dem Fachmann als Beweis der Originalität eines Frosches.

Pet­ri­fied For­est Na­tio­n­al ParkThe Petrified Forest is primarily a geological park, which owes its origin to the climate and geological events. It is part of the so-called Painted Desert and shows with its various layers a strange and impressive scenery. Characterized by erosion, it is a treasure trove of fossils. The rock formations show a chronicle of the past and give clues about the events of bygone days. In the park you can exposure rock strata until 234 million years ago. The colorful desert hills, the flat mesas and shaped hills attributable primarily to Chinle Formation and are fluvial sediments, caused by water movement. Countless fossilized wood and tree trunks bear witness to a scrumptious earlier fauna.

Die ge­heim­nisvollen Flu­o­rite der Pforte in der Wüste NamibDie Geschichte der Pforte-Fluorite ist eines der spannenden Kapitel der Mineralogie. Diese Fluorite haben mich fasziniert, seit ich in den frühen 1970er Jahren in einem Schmuck- und Mineralienladen in München die ersten grünen "South African emeralds", die sog. "grünen südafrikanischen Smaragde" von der Pforte in Form eines prächtigen Colliers in der Hand hielt, ohne zu ahnen, dass diese „Smaragde“ in Wirklichkeit grüne geschliffene Fluorite waren. Eine erste Stufe mit dunkelvioletten Fluoritoktaedern mit der Fundortangabe "Pforte" habe ich 1973 bei Walter Khan in Wedesbüttel erstanden, diese aber in Unwissenheit ihrer geschichtlichen Bedeutung irgendwann in Spanien vertauscht. Die schönsten Pforte-Fluorite allerdings konnte ich während der Vorbereitungsarbeit zu einer großen mineralogischen Namibia-Reise im Jahr 1998 in einer bedeutenden deutschen Namibia-Sammlung bestaunen. Zu dieser Zeit gehörte Fluorit zu meinen bevorzugten Mineralien. Ich kannte nicht nur unzählige weltweite Vorkommen, sondern hatte in vielen Jahren selbst eine umfassende Fluoritsammlung aufgebaut. Solche Fluorite jedoch, wie ich sie in dieser Sammlung sah, waren mir bisher in dieser Schönheit nicht untergekommen, leider gab es zu der Herkunft dieser Kristalle so gut wie keine Informationen und – wie leicht zu erraten - leider auch keine Stufen auf dem Markt. - Ein Bericht von Peter Seroka

The Mu­nich Mi­cro­moun­ters and their Lithothek„What will be the fate of my collection once I will no longer be able to collect? There are specimens of unique beauty and extreme rarity in the collection, pieces that cannot be replaced since some localities are closed or have been obliterated. All this might be thrown away because not many people realise the value and importance hidden in these little unimpressive boxes”. Many micromounters are worried by these considerations and other factors. “My collection is an important part of my life and of my personality. If my collection dissapears, I too, will cease to exist without trace”. We, the Micromounters of the Münchener Mineralienfreunde, are no exception. Many times the future of our collections was subject of our discussions and conversations. Children and grand children are not always appreciative of their parents’ or grandparents’ passion.
