Kas­par Maria Graf von Stern­bergKaspar Sternberg wurde als jüngster von 3 Söhnen des Grafen Johann von Sternberg geboren. Mit elf Jahren wurde er für die geistliche Laufbahn bestimmt und begann 1778 mit der priesterlichen Ausbildung im Collegium Germanicum in Rom. Er ging 1783 nach Regensburg, um eine kirchliche Laufbahn zu beschreiten. 1802 wurde er als Stellvertreter des Fürsten Thurn und Taxis die Spitze der dortigen politischen Verwaltung, des Landesdirektoriums. Min­er­al por­trait olivine (ger­man)Olivine is not a separate mineral, but a member belonging to the forsterite-fayalite mixing series. Olivine belongs to the olivin-groupe whose end-members are calcio-olivine and tephroite. Forsterite is a magnesium silicate; fayalite an iron silicate. If commonly is spoken of olivine, it is usually a more or less iron-rich forsterite. The color of olivine is generally yellowish green, olive green to black. TwinsThe study of twins starts due to the very first beginnings of crystallography as a science. Not negligible for this reason, the idea or the concept of a twin crystal are often associated with a macroscopic building. Modern studies at the nano scale have shown that the formation of twins can occur at a very early stage of crystal growing. Based on these findings, it does beg the request to reconsider the formation mechanisms, and adjacency to the newly different categories. (Text in german)

Silberlocken aus Kongsberg und Freiberg sind die Krönung einer jeden Mineraliensammlung. Schöne Pyrargyrite und Proustite lassen jedes Sammlerherz höher schlagen. Aber Silber als Mineral ist nicht nur Inbegriff höchstwertigen Sammelns, sondern hat auch wesentlich zur Geschichte der Menschheit beigetragen. Nicht zu zählen sind die Millionen von athener und phönizischen Sklaven, mittelaterlichen europäischen Knappen und Millionen Indios, die wegen des silbernen Metalls ihr Leben im Berg gelassen haben.

Silber ist eines der sieben Metalle, welche man seit Jahrtausenden kennt. Es wird bereits in der Bibel erwähnt ; Berge von Schlacken in Vorderasien und auf den ägäischen Inseln sind Beweise für die Technologie der Silbergewinnung aus bleihaltigem Erz, welche mindestens viertausend Jahre v.Chr. bekannt war.
Silber wurde seit der Antike als Metall für Schmuck und Ornamente, weitaus mehr jedoch zur Prägung von Münzen verwendet. Das Währungssystem vieler Länder beruhte auf Silber; wer Silber besaß, konnte auch Kriege führen. Die Macht Athens, Roms, der Phönizier, der Kirche, der Könige von Kastilien, der Habsburger und letztlich der Amerikaner beruhte nicht unwesentlich auf deren Besitz der größten Silbergruben und der Kriege, welche mittels mit Silbermünzen bezahlter Söldner geführt wurden.

The Ts­in­gys of Mada­gas­carOne of Madagascar's geological specialties are the so-called Tsingy: bizarre, at first sight hostile Karst landscapes, though form, due to the inaccessibility, a refugial area for some species. The word Tsingy means "walking one tip-toes" or "where one cannot walk bare-foot" in Malagasy language, an accurate description for the partially razor-sharp rock formations which can reach 20 m in height and with ends which can be as thin as pencils.

Best known and most impressive are the Tsingy of Bemaraha in the West of the island and the Tsingy of Ankarana in the North, both widespread Karst areas. In the North, as well, about 10 km south of the city of Antsiranana, one can find the Red Tsingy which have been washed out of the lateritic layer of earth.
