Dev­ils Tow­er - Ma­teo Te­peeDer Devils Tower (auch Mateo Tepee oder Bear Lodge) ist eine freistehende markante, säulenförmige Felsformation aus porphyrischem Phonolith im Crook County, im Nordosten von Wyoming, nahe der Grenze zu South Dakota. Seine absolute Höhe (über NN) beträgt 1558 m, er überragt die umgebende Ebene auf einem Sockel von Sedimentgesteinen um etwa 264 m. Seine Basis besitzt einen Durchmesser von ungefähr 300 m, am abgeflachten Gipfelbereich beträgt dieser etwa 120 m.

Thus from about 1240, the tin deposits (with the beginnings of subsurface mining also silver) around Ehrenfriedersdorf was mined. By finding rich silver adits in the 2nd third of the 15th Century the great mountain towns like Schneeberg (municipal law since 1477) and Annaberg (municipal law since 1496) was founded. Sil­ver - min­er­al­o­gy, min­ing and his­to­rySilver and silver minerals are amongst the most desirabe objects since the beginning of mineral collecting. Silver wires and curls from Kongsberg and Freiberg are the coronation of each mineral collection. Beautiful pyrargyrites and proustites enhance each collector's heatbeat.

However, silver is not only the essence of high-end collecting but has contributed essentially to the history of mankind. Uncountable remain the millions of greek and phenician slaves, middle age european miners and millions of indios who have left their lives for silver.

Silver is one of the seven metals known since thousands of years, already been mentioned in the bible. Mountains of slag in Asia Minor, Arabia and on the agaen islands prove technologies to produce silver from lead ore; knowledges people had been acquainted with since at least 4.000 year B.C. Since the antiquity silver had been used to make finery and ornaments, however, most of this metal was used to stamp coins. The monetary system of many countries was based on silver; the one, who owned silver, was able to finance wars. One of the main pillars of power of Athens, Rome, the Phenicians, the church, the kings and queens of Castilia, the Austrian house of Habsburg and, last not least, of the Americans had been their control over the richest silver mines and the wars, which they made by paying their soldiery with silver coins.

Basalt­säulen... Basaltsäulen sind erkaltete und erstarrte basaltische Lava. Die Erscheinungsform dieser erkalteten basaltischen Lava ist hauptsächlich von zwei Faktoren abhängig. Ge­o­log­ic and min­er­a­log­i­cal ex­pe­di­tion through Namibia and the Na­maqua­landReport about a geologic - and geology of deposits excursion through central and southern Namibia as well as the Namaqualand bordering to the South and parts of the Northern cape in autumn, 2009., Amongst other localities in Namibia the author visited the tin deposit Uis, the explorations project Namib Lead near Swakopmund, as well as the important mines Rosh Pinah and Scorpion Zinc in the south of Namibia. In the Republic South Africa the trip led to the copper mining region of Okiep as well as the lead zinc mines of Aggeneys and, finally, to the Kalahari manganese ore districts of Postmasburg and Kuruman.

The Franken­holz Mine – A Hid­den Chapter of In­dus­trial His­to­ryFrom early tunnel construction in the 18th century to its final closure in the 1950s, the Frankenholz Mine in Germany’s Saar region was a key site of coal mining history. With ambitious shaft projects, its own cableway connection to Bexbach, and remarkable geological features – including fossil discoveries and natural oil seepages – the mine reflects both the rise of industrial progress and the dangers of underground work. Gas explosions, water ingress, and tragic accidents shaped the lives of thousands of miners. Frankenholz remains a compelling reminder of a bygone mining era.

Felsenp­fad im Saarp­falz-KreisDer Rundwanderweg Nr. 41 der Wanderkarte des Saarpfalzkreises, beginnt an den Wasserfelsen, die im Sommer wie im Winter unablässig Tropfwasser abgeben. Geologen sprechen von einer Schichtquelle. Von hier oben genießt man den Blick über das Dorf und die Kirkeler Burg. Auf unserem weiteren Weg erreichen wir bald den Frauenbrunnen, eine weit und breit bekannte Quelle. Etwa 50 m oberhalb beginnt in östlicher Richtung der geologische Lehrpfad, entstanden 1983. Am Anfang des Weges wurde eine Übersichtskarte aufgestellt, die das Saarland, sowie angrenzende Teile geologisch umfaßt und die Fundorte der aufgestellten Steine anzeigt...
