Sil­ver - min­er­al­o­gy, min­ing and his­to­rySilver and silver minerals are amongst the most desirabe objects since the beginning of mineral collecting. Silver wires and curls from Kongsberg and Freiberg are the coronation of each mineral collection. Beautiful pyrargyrites and proustites enhance each collector's heatbeat.

However, silver is not only the essence of high-end collecting but has contributed essentially to the history of mankind. Uncountable remain the millions of greek and phenician slaves, middle age european miners and millions of indios who have left their lives for silver.

Silver is one of the seven metals known since thousands of years, already been mentioned in the bible. Mountains of slag in Asia Minor, Arabia and on the agaen islands prove technologies to produce silver from lead ore; knowledges people had been acquainted with since at least 4.000 year B.C. Since the antiquity silver had been used to make finery and ornaments, however, most of this metal was used to stamp coins. The monetary system of many countries was based on silver; the one, who owned silver, was able to finance wars. One of the main pillars of power of Athens, Rome, the Phenicians, the church, the kings and queens of Castilia, the Austrian house of Habsburg and, last not least, of the Americans had been their control over the richest silver mines and the wars, which they made by paying their soldiery with silver coins.

Der Erstere, der edle Topas, ist durchsichtig und durchscheinend, von starkem Glasglanze, und am häufigsten von gelber, besonders weingelber, Farbe, aber auch wasserhell, graulich-, grünlich- und gelblichweiß, oder Berg- und Seladongrün. Bei dem Sächsischen ist die weingelbe Farbe die herrschende und von allen Graden der Höhe; bei dem brasilianischen die honiggelbe. Die Übergänge ins rosenrothe, meergrüne, bläuliche etc. sind oft nur schwach, doch so merklich, daß man sie gewahrt. Er kommt gewöhnlich als vier= oder achtseitige Säule vor, die beim Brasilianischen mit vier, sechs auch acht Flächen zugespitzt, beim Sächsischen aber meistentheils mit einer sechsseitigen Fläche abgestumpft ist. Die Seitenflächen der Kristalle sind stets in der Länge gestreift; die übrigen Flächen aber glatt. Der Querbruch ist gerad= und vollkommenblättrig, der Längenbruch hingegen kleinmuschlig. Min­er­alien­por­trait Rho­dochrositRhodochrosit dürfte aufgrund seiner auffallend rosaroten Farbe zu den ältesten Schmucksteinen der alten Welt gehören, was u.a. durch archäologische Funde von Grabbeigaben in alten äygpischen Gräbern belegt ist. Ob dieses Mangancarbonat bewusst oder gezielt abgebaut wurde, ist nicht bekannt. Sicher ist jedoch, dass die alten Ägypter Manganerze aus dolomitisierten Kalksteinen in der östlichen Wüste und auf der Halbinsel Sinai abbauten, wo mit Sicherheit auch Rhodochrosit vorkam und als Nebenprodukt zur Schmuckherstellung diente.
Rho­dochrosit dürfte auf­grund sein­er auf­fal­l­end rosaroten Farbe zu den äl­testen Sch­muck­stei­nen der al­ten Welt ge­hören, was u.a. durch archäol­o­gische Funde von Grabbei­ga­ben in al­ten äyg­pischen Gräbern belegt ist. The Mu­nich Show 2025The Mineralientage München 2025 – The Munich Show once again showcased a fascinating variety of minerals, fossils, and jewelry. Although visitor numbers appeared slightly lower than last year, the fair remained vibrant and diverse. Highlights included the collector displays and the special exhibition on natural resources, while the fossil section was somewhat smaller.
Some visitors expressed a wish for more seating areas, opportunities for exchange, and more eye-catching advertising, yet overall the event left a very positive impression and remains a must-visit for collectors and families alike.
