Perl­proben... Man glüht in der rauschenden Flamme eines Bunsenbrenners ein Magnesiastäbchen bis zur Rotglut aus. Mit dem heißen Magnesiastäbchen wird eine kleine Menge Borax oder Phosphorsalz aufgenommen und vorsichtig in die Brennerflamme gebracht. Unter ständigen Drehen wird das Salz so lange in der Brennerflamme gedreht, bis eine klare Perle entstanden ist. The Franken­holz Mine – A Hid­den Chapter of In­dus­trial His­to­ryFrom early tunnel construction in the 18th century to its final closure in the 1950s, the Frankenholz Mine in Germany’s Saar region was a key site of coal mining history. Special chapters deal with the fluorite deposits and global settings, the mining of fluorspar and ore processing; One chapter shows the development of fluorite collecting in the past and now.

The most comprehensive part of the book is dedicated to the mineral's worldwide deposits, describing the best known old, classic and modern occurrences in 96 countries . A great number of mineral and mining photographs accompany each chapter, showing the characteristics of most fluorites from a specific deposit.

ZincIin 1546 Georgius Agricola reported about a white metal which is fused to the Rammelsberg lead and silver melter and that you could scrape off. He called this metal "contrefey", because it could imitate gold. Agricola did not recognize that this metal was zinc. He further observed that a similar metal, which he named from some unknown reasons "ZINCUM" arose under similar circumstances in Silesia during smelting.

Min­er­al por­trait olivine (ger­man)Olivine is not a separate mineral, but a member belonging to the forsterite-fayalite mixing series. Olivine belongs to the olivin-groupe whose end-members are calcio-olivine and tephroite. Forsterite is a magnesium silicate; fayalite an iron silicate. If commonly is spoken of olivine, it is usually a more or less iron-rich forsterite. The color of olivine is generally yellowish green, olive green to black.
